This has been bugging me for a while; with todays de-sensorisation effects of computer games on our children (I have 4 young lads 22,11,9,4) does our favourite game still deserve a 16+ Rating?

For the record; my sons (except the 22 year old :P ) are not allowed to play or in fact watch me play the game. However, it is noted that BF2142 online has no "BLOOD", certainly no "dismemberment" and death is more by rag doll effect.

Am I being to harsh on my boys or do you agree with the rating?

Go for it

Tough decision.

I dont have kids myself so I suppose I cant really comment. However its hard to tell one sibling no when anothers allowed, my younger brother used that leverage successfully for many years.

No blood and gore should = no R16+. Probably because of guns. I lol'd when Battlefield Heroes (good game, but the server problem at the moment FFFFFFFFFFF) got rated T (ESRB) because of Tobacco references.

Actually from looking at the game case, it's rated M with both NZ and Aussie labels. On the bad side, this probably means 13 year old boys being script kiddies in our fun 2142~

The game doesnt have so much as violence but when you play online it can get a bit abusive? that & its a bit annoying when you have some 12 year old blabbing away on voip..... let ur kiddies watch but no play?

Have to agree with you mayhemlee on the 12 year olds.

Speaking of letting them watch, let them see the FIELDFRAG YouTube videos those are actually good gameplay 2142 vids.

LOL Mayhemlee ;D , keep trying!

This poll isnt really to debate wether my kids can or cant, Im just really curious on everyone elses view.

Already there are some good points, I totally forgot the type of language that a person can be subjected to from within a squad.

Keep it up, this poll is making some pretty good reading.

I would suggest this, if you are going to let them play the game, make sure they understand the reality of what this is based on but that this is just a game. If youre satisfied they understand the distinction then thats a start, as to the voip language I'm not sure, I knew a professor of psycholgy through being friends with his son when I was growing up, he actively encouraged swearing in all forms at home, he claimed it removed the risk of kids holding back becoming an unhealthy barrier to communication, go figure.

Personally speaking just as a civilian I have seen more weapons and armed assholes than I ever wanted to, even been an unwilling spectator in the vicinity of live fire a couple of times, I would much rather see it on the screen in a game :)

Its the outright killing that is the issue, don't want to desensitise them before they are old enough to understand death.

Sad to say I've seen people die and I've seen a few dead and I still dont understand death, the longer you can keep that concept out of someones life the better.
