This is alil off topic but I have a 6 speaker headset and was wondering what is the best audio setup to select for surround sound in-game? Also how many audio channels does Bc2 output max?? Thanks in advance.

If it's off topic then start a new one!

How is your headset connected to your PC?
Which soundcard installed?
What brand of headset is it?

BC2 only supports 5.1 (if your headset accepts 7.1 it would probably duplciate 2 of the tweeters)

In BC2 I'd check you have "Home Cinema" selected.
I've also seen mention of a "SpeakerCount" option in "settings.ini", which you'd change to 6

How do you find the headset? Is it actually a true multi driver headset?

I have tried a few and found them less than satisfying, I much prefer a good 2 channel set of phones and a good headphone amp to go with them.

I have a Zalman 6 speaker headset, 3 speakers in each cup, no virtual surround sound garbage that only use 2 speakers. Its connected to the pc via 3 headphone jacks so it outputs 6 independant channels in total and another for the mic, so 4 jacks all up. Iv'e been told Bc2 audio is software driven which could be the issue. It mite just have poor surround sound dynamics. My sound card supports 7.1 channels. Its just that the surrond sound in Bc2 feels alil weak compared to 2142 which supported xfi soundcards which is what I had in my last pc which was absolutely awesome it was like I had a home cinema setup on my head. It made it alot easier to pinpoint the enemy just by using sound. Iv'e selected 6 channels in documents/settings.ini but surround sound still feels weak. Also the sound settings ingame i believe just alter the dynamic range to best suit your speakers capabilites and not the number of channels. Could be wrong tho.

Check you have DTS selected (ticked) on any software that came with the sound card. It might be "DTS Interaction" or similar. Is the card Dolby Pro Logic II certified? Do you have a home cinema amp that you can hook up to and check that the display on that shows input from a Dolby source? Is there a switch on the headset that enabled Dolby DTS like the G35?

Lots of threads are saying regardless of headset, if it's able to do 5.1 then select "home cinema" in BC2 and set the speaker count (which I think you've done already).

I had these headphones, but I sold them because even after 2 weeks use they kept giving me massive headaches and sore ears. I gave them a try with "Home Cinema" in BC2, however I only had on-board sound at the time. I now have a X-Fi card so it'd be completely different. meh.

They were pretty good at imitating 5.1 for headphones, but I found the bass was majorly off in my opinion. The explosions were muffled and over-powering the other sounds like gunfire and grenades. They WERE great for movies tho, they made for VERY clear speech when the actors were talking. Same for BC2, hearing enemies scream "Man down man down" or "Take Cover" was alot easier and clearer.

Bass and Treble would have been configurable in the settings for the device.

DMan, you got 5.1 going now?

I have yet to hear gaming headsets that sound semi reasonable - I find that I have to get hifi ones and use a separate mic. My Sennheiser HD650's are truly awesome, but they cost similar to a mid/high end video card...

Fatal1ty Professional Series Gaming Headset MkII, are supposed to be really good. I'll get myself a set at some point I reckon.

Lots of people prefer speakers, however I'll always be a headphone person. I find it easier to focus on the different sounds, and use the EAX to figure out where gunfire is coming from, which direction I hear someone walking nearby, reloading, grenades being thrown. etc.

EAX is truely awesome, and if you train yourself well, you'll find your audio is a MUCH more powerful weapon than the greatest graphics card or the biggest res screen. (As long as the game you're playing supports EAX, and has a great sound detail, like BC2)

I biggest regret is selling my Audigy 2 ZS soundcard 2 years ago, along with my AKG K301 Headphones. I was desperate for money at the time, as I'd just started going out with my g/f, and you all know how much one of THOSE cost... LOL!

Phantom got his K301's shortly after I got mine way back then, I still enjoy borrowing them when I cruise around to his place for a LAN. Haven't done that since getting my X-Fi card get tho, looking forward to hearing the combination together. My old audio setup gave me an awesome advantage back when I played BF2142.

Luckily I got a new X-Fi Xtreme Audio card now, but im stuck with REALLY cheap arse earphones at the moment. Absolutely dying to get some decent headphones, or atleast some budget low-end to do me for now. For speakers, im still using my Logitech 5.1 640's. Old, but still awesome for what they cost.

Most my gaming is done on a budget rig. Budget, but it does me well. Still get plenty of frags and tags. heh.

Those X series Logitech? Damn good speakers and very good price, I use the X230's if Im buying speakers for an everyday ordinary machine.

I used to go for the early Creative ones years ago, with the little cube speakers that were made by Cambridge Audio, and sometimes Altec Lansing, but Altec are very expensive and extremely heavy on the bass, always have been, not for use if you live in flats lol, every set of Altecs Ive owned have caused complaints.

Just now Ive got a cheapo set of Logitech headphones, fine for what use I give them :)

Actually, im using the Logitech Z640's. With the 9inch sub. Powerful clean bass, as long as you don't over-do the volume to the extreme (For it's price, anyway. It's by no means perfect)
