Pretty good rig actually. Here's my suggestion:

Keep the i5 2500k, get same mainboard as me (or maybe the next model up for an extra $30), either keep the ram, or go 1600mhz or maybe even a touch higher, spending on what CL you're after.
60gb SSD is about $200, tho Playtech have some re-furbished ones for $130 at the moment.
As for the card? The one I'd like to have, but can't afford. EVGA GTX560 Ti Super-clocked. Around $380

Hope this helps.

Note: You could always keep the 275 for a little bit, and get one of the 600 series later in the year. Or get something like a cheap 550 Ti SC to hold your ground in BF3 till the 600's come out. You have a i5, so I wouldn't spend too much on the rest of the hardware, it's the graphics card that'll make the biggest difference.

isnt most ddr3 ram factory clocked at 1024mhz and changing settings in the bios enables you to push it higher?
ive got my i5 750 running at 4000mhz(running bit too hot tho) and my ram at 1600mhz..

Think it depends on chipset. Think H61 and H67 take upto 1333mhz and that's it.
My Z68 takes 1333/1600/1866/2133

Atleast, I think so. Look into that, I may be wrong.

From what i can make of your current rig,SSD and as much as you can afford for the GPU.

SSD www.alphacity.co.nz/index.php?main_page=...46&products_id=87207

GPU need to know how much you wanna spend but the 560ti superclocked would do fine for BF3

www.alphacity.co.nz/index.php?main_page=...84&products_id=82996

Your current M/B Ram and cpu will be fine.

Also, if you have SLI, you could go 2x EVGA 550 Ti SC. Would beat a 560 Ti SC and in most cases, beat a 570. However, Each would be $225 from Playtech, $450 total. Cheapest 570 is $480 MSI, for the record.

If your curious and have money to burn, cheapest GTX 580 is a $720 EVGA unless you wanna go with a $650 KFA2 (Which is a new brand to the market as far as I know)

PS: Unless I get a card soon, I might be keen to buy your 275 off you. Faster (10-15% atleast) and more stable FPS than my stupid 4870.

well thinking maybe hold off on the card for a few months, was looking at spending around $500 on a card, may GTX275 is still a good weapon but no DX11....

but if i can run BF3 at med or above settings i be happy, SSD was just for a speed hit, so il go ahead with that, alot of money thou just for 60GB geeeeeezzz

Yeah, SSD's are quite pricey at $200 for 60gb Sata3 SSD. Most people just get a 60gb to hold their OS and their top 3 most-played games, and then get a standard 1Tb Sata3 drive to store any movies/games/music/updates etc.

If you're looking around the $500 mark, I'd say either the two 550 Ti's, or a nice Super-Clocked 560/570 if you haven't got SLI.

Phantoms suggestion of a EVGA SC 560 Ti was pretty good value for money at $380.

But if around $500 is your plan, then the only logical choice to me, would be this:
EVGA GeForce GTX 570 SC HDMI Dual-DVI 1280MB at $540

That being said, I have heard standard SLI 550's for $450 will beat a standard 570, but probably tie with a Super-clocked one. So if you have SLI as an option, it'd be personal choice as to which to get, as the SLI option would be $100 cheaper.

^^ yep pretty much re the SSD, i will be getting SSD for my OS only and moving my 150GB Raptor for my games HDD rest of the drives will be green as they will only be needed for storage

BTW Goatie... I would use what ya for for BF3... see what it looks like then it will give you an idea on what ya need, that and also leaving it closer to the end of the year helps with price fluctuation

Leading up closer to BF3 launch, it's expected that people will rush to upgrade their cards. That will likely force a price drop on certain cards. I'd wait till at least 4-5 days before BF3 launch to buy a serious card. Plus, nVidia might do a surprise launch of the 600 series just before launch, to take advantage of all the BF3/MW3 hype. From a marketing point of view, it would make sense, IF they can meet the deadline.

But sensibly, the best time to buy would be like either first BF3 update, or first nVidia driver update for BF3. Past early-release updates have increased graphics efficiency as much as 10-15% for certain cards in said game. It happened for BF2, 2142, and BC2.... so I believe the same will happen for BF3.

Goat hold on to your gfx card it will run bf3 fine and you can save up some more for a 560ti SC card or a 570 will give you a good upgrade for some time. Your cpu ram mobo etc is good.

Get this SSD 64gig www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=2.../productdetails.html
they have released a firmware update for it with 20% + performance increase.

There is a sandforce drive issue on other drives but they are fixing that or have done so i would avoid the sata III OCZ-corsair drives for now. The intel 320 series is slow. the 510 series is sex but to expensive (Crucial and intel 510 drives are the same parts using differnt firmware)

I have the M4 with O.S installed some apps and BC2 i still have 25gig space left on it.

I have 13secs windows startup time & games apps etc are super fast. certainly worth the $200 best upgrade you can do after gfx tbh

Good buy, very good buy. You will be amazed on the boot time, plus maps load faster. I'll be looking at a SSD sometime early next year I reckon, maybe sooner. Good info Mayhem!

And yeah, wait. Save. Buy a monster GPU once BF3 is out for a bit. Once those 600 series hit the market, it'll take less than a month or two for older prices to start crashing hard on the previous cards, like the GTX570/580's.

Btw, I'd personally make sure your audio setup is up to scratch. Next to a good video card, I swear a good audio setup is the next best competitive edge. (x-fi card and headphones, or speakers if you prefer) Followed my a decent COMFORTABLE gaming mouse.

Once you got all 3, Rig, Audio and Mouse, the only thing any gamer can do is this: Play hard, have fun, get better, and make your enemies cry.
