Battlefield 3 is certainly shaping up to be a serious sequel for Pc and not a watered down version to suite console. Link below a good read if your a true Battlefield (Pc) gamer. This is good news.

ea and dice did well with bf1942, bf2 and bf2142,.. but it seems MONEY(as in greed) is getting in the way lately...

My thoughts exactly. Consoles are killing the Battlefield franchise. I didn't buy a 4 grand rig to play cross-platform, dumbed down games. Consoles are holding Pc gaming way back. Here's a thought for you Ea. Instead of making 1 dumbed down cross platform game to dissapoint Pc gamers and awe console gamers how about you make 1 "real Battlefield 3" game for us hardcore Pc gamers and one watered down version for consolers and tell em it's the best. I want full open sandbox games so I can actually have the room to move a tank or fly a chopper, or setup some serious tactics "pun intented at Bc2", 64+ player counts and a decent squad count with commander roles and orders to dish out and score on. In my appinion Bf2 and 2142 are far superior in that aspect compared to Bc2. I feel like us dedicated Pc fans have been neglected. We are the reason why the franchise did so well but now they'e pushed us aside and made console there higher priority because thats where the money is atm. Don't get me started on this lol. You owe us a solid Pc sequel!! Dam you Ea!!! Dam you to hell. Arrrrghhh!!

last paragraph

As a light and of course cost free take on Battlefield, then, it's looking more than adequate, and the shift in focus from the light hearted thrills of Heroes should find it a new audience – and if the series' core fans needed any encouragement, the fact that achievements in Free 4 Play will unlock content in the imminent Battlefield 3 will surely be all the incentive they need. It's currently slated for a closed beta at the end of the month which will open up early next year.

This is the path I'll be taking> Bc2 then Battlefield play for free then of course Battlefield 3. Looks to me it's the way Ea want things to turn out anyway when you consider how all the games can unlock content to the next game and should't need a fast rig to play Bfp4f I'm guessing.

I tried playing Battlefield Heroes but it's just too simple for me, I couldn't get into it.

Yeah, Im sure its fine, 6 mil is a successful number of players, it just didnt appeal to me.

Im sure I'll probably drift towards BFP4F as well, just dont enjoy the play and maps in BC2 much, the only time I enjoy it is when we have a good SAF presence and squadding up is going well.

BFP4F also promises some improvement and updating of the graphics engine, its billed as possibly playable on netbook style hardware so it should run fast, but no one will know for sure until its been tried for real and EA do have a habit of telling likes about base requirements and performance claims.

I suspect the speed MOH came out and the speed BFP4F came out, along with the long distance hyping of BF3 is because EA want to tap into the leftover BF2 spirit and veterans from that far back, because despite the initial success of BC2 I think interest, sales and players are falling away much faster than previous releases, at least on the PC.

After the initial flash and shinyness of BC2 a lot of people have tired of the gameplay style and smaller maps and its showing itself as a game that was always console first PC second. Noticeably EA are now publiscizing that BC2 was NEVER supposed to be another proper PC installement of Battlefield, its officially a sequel to the BAd Company console games and nothing else.

Personally I think long term they think theyre losing a significant chunk of the original PC Battlefield fanbase and theyre resorting to a BF2 nostalgic Play for Free title to try to win fans back and hold onto them until they can prop up and push Battlefield 3, unfortunately this probably means the increasingly typical EA release habit of buggy underdeveloped product with a fast cut off of long term support.

BF2 lasted 4 - 6 years, 2142 lasted 2 - 4 years, BC2 will die faster and I think EA have realised they better get another good one out before it dies a death completely.

what?? i think EA are doing that on purpose!
THEY WANT the games to only last a few months, means you keep spending money on their shite.....
it costs them too much for server maintanance for all these games, so bring out the new one(which is, technically, the same exact game as other previous games, just slapped and shined with a new coat of armour and later dx support)

Look at the FAQ link posted in that thread. :)

Will I be able to use my Battlefunds in Battlefield Play4Free?
Yes! As long as you use the same account for both games, your Battlefund balance will be shared between both games!

How does Battlefield Play4Free relate to Battlefield 3?
Like our connections with Battlefield Heroes, we are working on deep connections between Battlefield Play4Free and the upcoming Battlefield 3. If you plan to play Battlefield 3, we would advise you get into Battlefield Play4Free at the earliest opportunity!!

Here some more updates on Bf3:

EA's CEO <3's Battlefield 3!
Sat Dec 04, 2010 2:10 am

In an interview between Kotaku and EA's CEO, John Riccitiello, he revealed that he has high hopes for Battlefield 3. As many die-hard Battlefield fans already know, EA is on a crusade to take back the number one spot for FPS titles. John stated that 2010 was a great year for EA's FPS market with two major releases BC2 and MoH. While both were massive successes, especially BC2, Activision's CoD series still dominates the market.

John believes that the way to beat not only Activision, but other FPS makers as well, is to make a better game. That game, he stated, is Battlefield 3. He states that building a better game doesn't just mean, a better story mode and multi-player mode, but better graphics and sound, stating Frostbite 2 as a supporting factor in Battlefield 3's success.

John Riccitiello wrote:
...most importantly for us [is] Battlefield 3, which I feel incredibly good about.

However, towards the end of the interview John stated that EA is working with former Activision and CoD creative team Respawn Entertainment to create another major FPS to combat Activision with as well.

And here:

Kenny Magnusson a senior lighting and VFX artist for EA/DICE will be holding a session at the GDC 2011 conference (February 28 - March 4.) In the blurb for about the session, Kenny states the following.

Kenny Magnusson wrote:
This session presents a detailed overview of the new lighting system implemented in DICEs Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables us to stretch the boundaries of lighting in BATTLEFIELD 3 with its highly dynamic, varied and destructible environments

The session is focused towards rendering programmers and technical artists, however attendants of GDC will be able to view the session. Kenny also mentions that Frostbite 2 will take lighting capabilities of Battlefield 3 beyond any previous Battlefield.

Attendees should expect to take away the following from the session:

Quote:
* How we merged the two lighting systems for mirror's edge and battlefield
* How does a real time radiosity architecture work for a Video Game
* How we manage the new authoring of meshes
* The advantages of a real time radiosity
* Lighting large environments
* The best practice
* How we use lights
* Why its important to separate elements in the lighting system
* why is workflow so important
* what we have we learned in this process

And at sessions demonstrating rendering, especially lighting, there is probably going to be demos and/or videos. These demos will of course find their way to the internet and there's a good chance that these videos and demos will feature some of Battlefield 3's environments.

This will be the largest Frostbite 2 announcement thus far. It is highly expected that this will be the first time that we see what Battlefield 3 will look like.

Update on Bf3:

Battlefield 3 Not A Gamble
Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:00 am

While many people in the community and the media believe that EA/DICE are just flipping games out as a way to increase their stock price, this isn't true. By now the developers of Battlefield 3 have realized that, Black Ops wasn't as good as it was made out to be and that it's time for Battlefield to really shine. As DICE has said before, the game won't be rushed and the developers of the game will be given plenty of time to polish it.

The community is waiting EA/DICE, make the community proud first. And if you make the community proud, your stockholders will also be happy because of the success of Battlefield 3.

Now that's what I like to hear :)
